Congratulations to Wigan on a outstanding defensive display, the scoring of a great try and winning another trophy.

Sorry Sam, in spite of your retirement after a great career, we had to win!

And it can't be bad when both trophies will be in the Wigan Borough for the next few months or so!

He got a great reception from the Wigan fans AFTER the game.
Peet got it right tactically again, kicking to him and making him work
Good luck Sam,in all that you do

It should also be noted that our chairman/owner is standing down. He has made many decisions, some more popular than others, but I believe always with the club at heart.
His best must surely have been the signing of an untried assistant coach from Australia, who turned the club around in just two seasons,Michael’madge’Maguire.

Owd Codger, why include the council?

Replied: 15th Oct 2023 at 18:46

tonker

Give it a rest as I have never mention the Council, only to say that it is great for the two trophies to be won in the same season by the two Super League clubs situated in the Borough of Wigan.

Something which may never happen again!

The town is called “Wigan”. The rugby club represents the town, not the council.

PS. Mind you, they do use the council’s crest and the council are heavily involved, so you may be partially excused for including them!

Great win for wigan it's a real pity Leigh didn't support wigan in grand final like wigan supported Leigh in challenge cup final, the clown council advertise all over the borough we are Wigan & Leigh......really" someone wants to inform the Lobbies gobbles then.

Rugby aside….Stupid having one Council for 2 relatively large towns….can’t say that many Wigan supporters would support Leigh..a few yeah, like myself before they became the Leopards with their daft kit…give me tradition any day…the Leopard Dynasty will be a flash in the pan….5 years at the most

Judging by the number of Wigan supporters I saw at Old Trafford wearing older shirts bearing the Ancient & Loyal badge, we can only hope that the same 5 year period will also apply to Wigan, especially as the new badge and marketing has not made the same impact as that of Leigh!

And clinging to the tradition of having the too many clubs along the M62 corridor may be a reason why the game is not attracting many new supporters and making the kind of impact as it should be doing!

And some still living in 1926 is also not helping!

In my opinion, it’s a bit childish to say “Leigh won’t support Wigan” and vice versa.
I can say that a few Leigh rugby men, including officials, have been to watch the final, along with St.Helens and Wigan fans and ex players. Generally, they are like-minded sports enthusiasts who enjoy a rugby match, league or union, regardless of who’s playing.
Never have I heard these men refuse to watch a match ‘because it’s Saints’ or ‘because it’s Wigan’.
They are ‘rugby men’.
Three of the Leigh brigade, with one Wigan fan, are currently in Benidorm to watch the final. An annual event, regardless of who’s playing.

and in my opinion your wrong!
they wouldn't even type wigan on the old Leigh message boards, never mind support them .And its not very nice making your way from the lsv after a leigh/ wigan match.
had over thirty years working round Leigh, same old insults about" big Wigan"..and "are thy a pie eyter"
Might be all cosy cosy in benidorm, but not in Leyth

I mix with Leigh rugby club management and ex players.
I have business connections in Leigh.
If I asked them, “do you hate Wiganers”?, they’d look at me with a puzzled expression and ask “why”? “what’s up”?
If I asked, “In a Leigh stick Wigan rugby match, who would you be shouting for”?, they wouldn’t be saying “Wigan”, naturally.
It’s the game of rugby. Not life.
Anyone who refuses to watch a game of rugby “because they’re scousers”, or “because they’re mancs” or “because they’re French” etc., are not proper sports fans!

I agree with your last statement.
However,I do not refer to officials of the Leigh Rugby club, but the punters in the street. There is a hatred of all things Wigan! This is real life.
BTW there are people on this very board that fit your last statement

I see Morgan Smithies has signed for Canberra Raiders for next season….silly man chasing the money far too early….do we sign a loose forward or make one from our current squad

Topped the tackle count on Saturday with 55,good work rate
Will he be able to do that in the NRL? It remains to be seen.
There’s some big lads down there.
Realisticly, with what’s been spent,I think we’ll fill that position from within

Ethan Havard could be possible if he’s got 80 minutes in him when fit…Joe Shorrocks could also fit the bill

You can hardly blame them when the game down under is now far bigger with more money than what it is in our country and the weather is far better as well!

As for who will play Loose Forward, we might even get a shock of who will fill the position!

Never said anything about Owen Farrell, but could possibly be one of the new signings or a new role for a existing member of the squad.

It would be interesting to see how Owen Farrell would fit in under the salary cap,and who would have to go to make it happen.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the spending was over for this year.
My tip for Loose forward is Brad O’Neil

You might be right as that would explain the signing of Leeming who is my kind of hooker!

O’Neill would be a good choice…a good brain on a young man

and he has also got the size of a Loose Foward rather than the size and speed of a Hooker.

I think it is only Smithies who has kept him from being selected in the position earlier.

We will have to wait and see if it happens.

He was a LF as a junior ,however I suspect that loose forward is now just a number and not an actual position, most hookers, fullbacks anybody packs down at the back of a scrum,no scrum halves coming round the blind side of the scrum etc in the modern game .So unsure what the real role is
